SAG Awards 2016 Winners: Leonardo DiCaprio Is One Step Closer To An Oscar, After Best Actor Victory (FULL WINNERS LIST)

Leonardo Is One Step Closer To His First Ever Oscar

Leonardo DiCaprio is one step closer to snatching his much-awaited Oscar, after winning his first ever Screen Actors Guild Award on Saturday night (30 January).

He took home the Best Actor gong for his performance in ‘The Revenant’, ahead of fellow nominees Eddie Redmayne, Johnny Depp and Michael Fassbender.

Taking to the stage, Leo said: “I’m truly humbled by this because it comes from all of you, my fellow actors. Thank you from the bottom of my heart.”

Having already won Best Actor at the Golden Globes earlier this month, it’s now looking increasingly likely that Leo will finally get his hands on an Academy Award in the next few weeks, after being nominated for six Oscars without a win yet.

Other big winners at Saturday’s SAG Awards included Idris Elba, who took home two acting gongs, and used the opportunity during his acceptance speech to allude to the recent controversy surrounding the Oscars, who don’t have any actors of colour nominated in this year’s awards.

Brie Larson from ‘Room’ and Alicia Vikander from ‘The Danish Girl’ were also among this year’s victors.
