Is Jonathan Ross Facing The Axe From ITV?

Jonathan Ross has admitted that he fears his chat show could be axed.

The host revealed his concerns following the departure of ITV boss Peter Fincham earlier this year.

And with his current golden handcuffs deal with the broadcaster due to expire at the end of the year, Wossy’s fate lies in the hands of new boss Kevin Lygo, who famously axed ‘Big Brother’ when he was in charge of Channel 4.

“But maybe I’m not safe, as being friends with him means he can actually be more honest with me than anyone else, so who knows? I’m still enjoying the chat show - it’s a job.”

Ratings for Wossy's show have fallen

Wossy’s show has taken a knock in recent years, following his move to ITV from the BBC in 2010.

Ratings for his show have fallen to as low as 1.8 million, which is much less than his BBC replacement, Graham Norton, whose chat show often brings in more than four million.

“We do it every six years to keep the show fresh. So expect a few surprises - and we’re still striving to get top guests.”

An ITV spokesman added: “The Jonathan Ross Show is currently on ITV and there is already another series later in the year that we are very much looking forward to.”

Earlier this month, Graham beat Jonathan and Michael Parkinson to be crowned the the nation’s favourite chat show host, in a poll of over 2000 people, conducted by OnePoll.

‘The Jonathan Ross Show’ airs Saturdays on ITV.
