'Foreign Office Fears' Over Michael Fallon's Falklands Visit

Michael Fallon is to become the first defence secretary to visit the Falkland Islands in more than a decade.

Mr Fallon will head for the islands, where some 1,400 British service personnel are stationed, while the Commons is in recess this week.

According to the Mail on Sunday, some Foreign Office diplomats are concerned the trip could undermine an apparent thaw in relations with Argentina.

Cristina Kirchner was ousted as president two months ago and successor Mauricio Macri has adopted a less aggressive stance to the territorial dispute that saw the countries go to war in 1982.
