The revamp project, which is reportedly costing £15 million, will “be as authentic as East London today, including a mosque”, a source tells the Sun.

Don't worry, the Queen Vic isn't going anywhere

While the plans are yet to be set in stone, an ‘EastEnders’ spokesperson has not denied the reports, stating: “The new locations for the exterior set build are still to be decided.

"However, as announced previously, the new set will better reflect the East End of London on screen as well as increase the potential for storylines."

However, claims that a radicalisation storyline are in the pipeline have been refuted.

Walford is currently home to one Muslim family, the Masoods, and the soap’s writers have previously won praise for their approach to referencing religion.

Back in November, viewers saw Tamwar Masood explaining his faith to his then girlfriend Nancy Carter, reading from the Quaran in Arabic, before then translating the passage into English.

“Do good to relatives, orphans, the needy, the neighbour who is near of kin, the neighbour who's a stranger, to the companion at your side, and to the traveller," he read, adding: "That to me, is what Islam is about.

“Be kind to people, family and strangers alike, and love them."
