The 64-year-old was taken to hospital but died a short time later.

A 21-year-old man and a boy of 17 were arrested on February 22 on suspicion of murder and were later bailed until April 20.

But officers have since uncovered new evidence and have re-arrested the 21-year-old on suspicion of murder, Greater Manchester Police said.

He remains in police custody for questioning.

Detective Chief Inspector Terry Crompton said: "This investigation remains a high priority for us and as such, significant work is being carried out to ensure we bring those responsible to justice.

"As a result of this excellent work by our officers and detectives, as well as help from the community, new evidence has come to light which has allowed us to once again arrest this 21-year-old man on suspicion of Jalal's murder."

Police are appealing for anyone who was in the South Street area of Rochdale at around 9pm on February 18 to contact them on 0161 856 4711 or Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
