'Strictly Come Dancing' Results: Melvin Odoom Leaves After Dance Off With Anastacia Is Cancelled

Injury meant Anastacia couldn't perform again.

Melvin Odoom has become the first celebrity to be eliminated from this year’s ‘Strictly Come Dancing’.

The former ‘Xtra Factor’ presenter was voted off the BBC ballroom competition after the usual dance off was cancelled.

Melvin had landed in the bottom two alongside Anastacia, but due to an injury to the scar tissue she has after undergoing a double mastectomy, the US singer was unable to perform again.

This meant the panel was not able to judge as usual, so producers reverted to the results of the public vote.

Explaining the process, a ‘Strictly’ spokesperson said: “As per the ‘Strictly Come Dancing’ rules if the dance off cannot go ahead then the result reverts to the viewer vote.”

As a result, it was revealed Melvin had polled the lowest amount of votes and would be leaving the competition.

After his exit, Melvin said: “It was unexpected but I care about the people before everything else, I love Anastacia I think she’s a great woman, she’s a great role model and her health comes first before everything else.

“As much as this is a great show and competition, her health comes first; it’s the way it is.”

Anastacia added: “I danced on Saturday even though the doctor had advised me to rest after I ripped the scar tissue around where I had my double mastectomy.

“After that, I was unable to dance again and I was devastated that I couldn’t take part in the dance off.

“I am so very sad to see Melvin and Janette go, they are the most the most wonderful pair and I will miss Melvin’s unique spirit and beautiful smile.”

Anastacia sustained the injury during rehersals, which meant there were many last-minute changes to her routine.

Her Salsa to Fleur East’s ‘Sax’ was the lowest-scoring dance of the night, with just 22 out of 40.

Melvin and partner Janette Manrara’s Tango to M People’s ‘Moving On Up’ only scored mariginally better, with 23 out of 40.

‘Strictly Come Dancing’ continues next Saturday on BBC One.
