WATCH: Gordhan's Inquiry Into Sars Explained

A body established by the minister of finance will be investigating Sars.

On Thursday, The Huffington Post SA reported that Finance Minister Pravin Gordhan ordered an investigation into the running of the South African Revenue Service (Sars). This was after Gordhan said in a written response to parliamentary questions that he could not verify that responses from Sars were accurate.

The Davis Tax Committee, a body then established by Gordhan, will be investigating how Sars operates, if its investigating capabilities are up to scratch and how it has dealt with previous recommendations from the Committee.

The HuffPost SA's deputy editor Pieter Du Toit offers an explains what happened, why we should care about this and what's next.
