It has been a bumper few weeks for South African comedian and host of "The Daily Show", Trevor Noah. His book Born A Crime: Stories from a South African Childhood has made it on to the New York Times Best Seller List and debuted at number 2 on Audible.com's non-fiction chart (and is now the site's highest-rated audiobook of 2016), and he has interviewed President Barack Obama. Now, Noah has earned the recognition of the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People (NAACP) in the United States.
His book has been nominated for the NAACP Image Awards in the categories of Outstanding Literary Work – Debut Author and Outstanding Literary Work – Biography/Autobiography. The association, founded in 1909, aims to "ensure the political, educational, social, and economic equality of rights of all persons and to eliminate race-based discrimination".
Noah said on Twitter that he was "incredibly honored" to be nominated.
He joins a list of nominees in various categories that includes Beyonce, Chance The Rapper and Donald Glover. The 48th instalment of the awards ceremony, set to be hosted by Anthony Anderson, will take place on 11 February 2017.
