Ukip would put the issue of fox hunting to a referendum if people wanted it, party leader Paul Nuttall has said.
Mr Nuttall was asked about his views on fox hunting by Sid, a busker in Boston, while out campaigning.
"If the countryside or people in the countryside want a referendum on the issue, that's what Ukip's policies have always been - local referendums," Mr Nuttall said.
"The policy is just a referendum. I'm not a countryside dweller myself."
Fox hunting has been put back on the agenda by Theresa May, who said she supported it and backed a free vote on the issue in the House of Commons.
When he was asked for his personal views on fox hunting, Mr Nuttall said: "All I'd do and Ukip's policy has always been, it's in the manifesto, simply hold local referendums on local issues.
"Trust the people and not the politicians."
Ukip's manifesto said that national referendums would be held "on the issues gaining the highest numbers of signatures on approved petitions" every two years.
The results of these referendums would be legally binding, the manifesto said.
