After days of silence from embattled radio host and comedian Tumi Morake, she has finally spoken out, saying: "I stand by my statements. Unapologetically."

Morake issued a statement on Thursday evening responding to the race furore surrounding her comments on Jacaranda FM. Listeners of the radio station called for a boicott after Morake used an analogy that white people behaved like bullies, which enraged right-wing lobby groups and saw advertising pulled from the station.

Jacaranda FM came out in support of Morake, saying she "had not intended to insult any racial demographic and was "intended only to express her view of the apartheid period".

"It's important to engage each other across our differences. And also, stop giving voice to the extreme right and left who hijack these kinds of conversations to forward their own agenda," Morake said.

"I have remained quiet for the past few days and watched things spiral out of control. Hate begets hate, let's not perpetuate it."
