A police officer was left driving a coach full of passengers to safety after their original driver fell ill while travelling on the motorway.
Pc Dean Young and his colleague were called to the incident on the M11 Northbound in Essex on Sunday January 28.
They were told the driver was too ill to continue the rest of the journey to Stansted Airport.
Mr Young, who had previously been a bus driver and still holds his full bus licence, drove the passengers away from the busy motorway to Chigwell Roads Policing Unit.
He organised for them to be taken to the airport by another driver and ensured they would get their flights on time.
Mr Young, from Southend local policing team, said: “It’s great to be able to use my previous career skills to help in my career as a police officer.
“Thankfully everyone was moved safely and the driver was looked after by a passenger.
“This is one of the stranger things that has been asked of me as an officer but it’s all in a night’s work.”
