A man has been arrested on suspicion of murder after a 74-year-old woman was found with suspected stab wounds at her home.
Anne James was discovered by a neighbour at the address in the Highgate area of Walsall on Wednesday.
A 25-year-old man was arrested by officers on Thursday night and will be questioned by detectives on Friday, West Midlands Police said.
A post-mortem examination will also take place on Friday to establish the exact cause of death.
Officers launched a murder investigation after they were alerted by the ambulance service at 6.15pm.
Mrs James was pronounced dead at the property in Doveridge Place when emergency services arrived.
A statement from Mrs James’s family said: “We are all devastated at the loss of a loving wife, mum, grandma and great grandma.
“She was an amazing, generous, kind and much-loved part of our family; she will be very sadly missed.”
Detective Superintendent Tom Chisholm, from the force’s Homicide Team said: “We have made significant progress with our investigation, but just because we have made an arrest does not mean we do not need people to come forward.
“We suspect Mrs James was attacked any time between late morning and 5pm on Wednesday and we need to hear from anyone who saw anything out of the ordinary.
“The family of Mrs James have suffered an immense shock and we are keeping them fully updated with the latest developments.”
