Aaliyah Hussain

Politics and International Studies PhD researcher at Warwick University. Muslim woman and proud feminist.

Aaliyah is a PhD researcher at Warwick University, in the Department for Politics and International Studies. Her thesis is on narratives of Afghan women in the 'war on terror'. As a postcolonial feminist, she is interested in hearing the voices of women who have been silenced or marginalised in mainstream politics and security discourses, namely women of colour, and in particular Muslim women.

Aaliyah completed her BA in International Studies and Economics at the University of Birmingham, where she also went on to do an MSc. in International Development. She is an activist for women's rights in Islam, and for true dialogue with the government and wider society in order to combat misunderstandings and the rise of extremism, both Islamic and from the far-right.
