Angela Constance

MSP for Almond Valley and Cabinet Secretary for Education and Lifelong Learning

Angela Constance is the Member of the Scottish Parliament (MSP) for Almond Valley and the Cabinet Secretary for Education and Lifelong Learning in the Scottish Government.

She was born in Blackburn and grew up in West Lothian, attending local schools and completing her education at West Lothian College, Stirling and Glasgow Universities. She served as a councillor for the Carmondean Ward in Livingston, and also worked as a social worker and mental health officer.

Elected to the Scottish Parliament for the first time in May 2007, Angela was re-elected in 2011. In 2010, she was appointed Minister for Skills and Lifelong Learning in the Scottish Government and following the 2011 election, she was given the position of Minister for Children and Young People before being appointed as Minister for Youth Employment – the first such dedicated post anywhere in the UK. In November 2014 she was appointed Cabinet Secretary for Education and Lifelong Learning.

She is married and lives in West Lothian with her husband and her young son.
