Catherine McKinnell

Labour MP for Newcastle North

Catherine McKinnell was first elected as the Labour MP for Newcastle upon Tyne North in May 2010.

Prior to her election as an MP, she worked as an employment solicitor with a large Newcastle-based firm.

Between 2010-2016, she served on the shadow frontbench as Shadow Solicitor General, Shadow Minister for Children & Young Families, Shadow Exchequer Secretary, Shadow Economic Secretary and Shadow Attorney General.

Catherine is currently a member of the Education Select Committee and Petitions Committee. She is also co-Chair of the All-Party Parliamentary Groups (APPGs) on Apprenticeships, on Regional Airports and on Anti-Corruption; Chair of the Parliamentary Friends of CAFOD; and Chair of the PLP's Departmental Group on International Trade.
