Danny Bryer

Area Director, Protea Hotels by Marriott and Lecturer to post-graduate marketing students at the University of Cape Town

Danny graduated from the University of the Orange Free State in 1982, Majoring in Economics. After a brief stint as an Economist at Total Oil, Danny began his career with Protea Hotels in 1986. His appointment culminating in 1994 when he became a shareholder and member of the board of Protea Hospitality Group, in the capacity of Director of Sales, Marketing and Revenue Management. Protea Hotels today is now part of Marriott International Hotels. He has been influential in the establishment of Protea's 3 brands, namely Protea Hotels, Fire and Ice and African Pride, and has ensured that these core brands remain recognised as the leading hospitality trademarks on the African continent. Following his studies abroad at Cornell and Disney Universities, Danny pioneered the principle of Revenue Management Optimisation in the hotel industry in South Africa after spending further time researching this key concept at Delta Airlines in 1995. Danny is also a lecturer to post-graduate marketing students at the University of Cape Town, focusing on "creative thinking" and adapting to the ever-changing world of information and technology. Having been a professional footballer, Danny has an avid love for all sports and enjoys exploring the outdoor life of Cape Town.
