Dr Kate Cook

Legal academic, feminist activist, researcher on violence against women and girls.

I am an academic, feminist activist, a researcher who focuses on violence against women and girls and a music-loving family woman. I teach criminal law at Manchester Law School, Manchester Metropolitan University. I am co-Head of the Sylvia Pankhurst Gender Research Centre at the university and you can sign up for our blog at (https://mmusylviapankhurstgenderresearch.wordpress.com/).

I have been a member of two rape crisis centres and have co-authored the "must read" book on the movement (Rape Crisis: Responding to Sexual Violence - Russell House). I have been actively involved in a number of successful campaigns to change the law, in England and Wales (around defences to murder and sexual offences). I continue to research and write about rape, domestic abuse, FGM and child sexual abuse. Meanwhile, I live in South Manchester with my music-teacher wife, Annie and with our two beautiful terriers, Millie and Ted.
