Dr Nigel Best

Doctor Nigel Best joined Specsavers as a resident
optometrist in 1993 after graduating from the University of Manchester Institute of Science and Technology. As well as running Specsavers stores in Darlington and Richmond, Nigel is a College of Optometrists supervisor. His years of experience serve him well as clinical editor of Specsavers’ in-house journal ‘ProFile’, which has readership of more than 10,000 optical professionals worldwide.

Alongside his work with Specsavers, Nigel has worked closely with editorial teams across the optical industry. He was formerly a member of the ‘Optometry in Practice’ editorial board and has published a number of papers in peer-reviewed journals. His written optical and medical contributions have featured in several consumer titles including Reader’s Digest.

In recognition of his work in the industry, Nigel was awarded a Fellowship of the British Contact Lens Association in 2009, followed in 2010 by a further Fellowship of the American Academy of Optometry.

In September of 2014, Nigel was awarded with a prestigious Doctorate from Aston University. After four-and-a-half years of studying and a thesis on contact lenses and dry eye, Dr Nigel Best became the second person in the UK to gain a Doctor of Optometry degree.
