Programme manager for Sightsavers’‘Connecting the dots’ project, supporting young people with disabilities in Uganda

Edith is programme manager for Sightsavers’ and the EU’s ‘Connecting the dots’ project, which provides training, skills development and helps find internships and job placements for young people with disabilities in Uganda.

Before joining the project, some participants had received education but when they finished school, they weren’t any opportunities open to them so they spent their days doing nothing. Barriers accessing employment include, challenges accessing training and resources, the negative attitudes of employers and inaccessible places of work.

Edith sees each of the 324 young people who have joined the programme as her children and has an incredible commitment to and affection for every one of them.

She oversees all elements of the programme, from liaising with teachers and employers to counselling students to planning and running career fairs to show the community what young people with disabilities are capable of.
