Eva Schloss

Holocaust survivor and step-sister to Anne Frank

Eva Schloss was born in Vienna in 1929 to Jewish parents. Her family had to flee Austria when Hitler overran the country, and they ended up in Amsterdam, where Eva met Anne Frank. Again, when Hitler conquered Holland, the family had to go into hiding. After two years they were betrayed and sent to Auschwitz. Only Eva and her mother survived.

Her mother later married Anne Frank’s father Otto, making Eva Anne’s step-sister. In 1951 Eva moved to London, where she married and had three daughters. In the 1980s, Eva decided to devote her life to speaking about her experiences and educating young people especially of the dangers of prejudice, hatred and racism. Eva has written two books, Eva’s Story and The Promise.
