Gareth Williams is Professor of Medicine at Bristol University

Gareth Williams is Professor of Medicine and former Dean of Faculty at the University of Bristol. He specialises in research around diabetes and obesity and has written extensively on the subject, including the prize-winning Textbook of Diabetes. He has written and co-authored over 20 books including Angel of Death: The Story of Smallpox, which was shortlisted for the Wellcome Trust Book Prize in 2010, and Paralysed With Fear: The Story of Polio. He has been featured extensively in the media, and was medical consultant for the BBC Two documentary about Mary Berry, who had polio as a child.
