Apprentice with the Tottenham Hotspur Foundation / Leadership through Sport programme

I was 18 years old when I decided to join the Leadership through Sport apprenticeship programme. I love sport and knew I would really enjoy mentoring. I also felt accountancy would be a useful asset and would give me many transferrable skills.

I am currently working at ICAP, the world’s leading inter-dealer brokers. I am based in the financial systems department, which is where we improve computer systems used by the company. Understanding the principles of accounting is vital, as this is how these systems operate. At the same time, I am currently studying for my Level 3 AAT Accounting Qualification. I have already achieved my Level 2. The AAT has been very beneficial because I can use what I’ve learnt at college in the workplace.

Since starting the programme I feel I’ve gained valuable work experience which is being backed up with my qualifications. I have also had the chance to meet inspirational people such as Ledley King and Lord Justice Pitchford. My plan is to use everything I’ve learnt on the programme to help me develop my career. One day I hope to be in a position where I can inspire someone too.
