Helen Clarkson

Long distance cycling enthusiast, keen hiker and wanderer.

I'm Helen, one half of Ever East.

In 2015 I completed 1000 miles of Lands End to John O'Groats solo and unsupported in 13 days. In 2017 I leave with my fiancé to cycle around the world.

I'm pedalling 27,000 miles to show that depression can, and should, be fought and not given into because you can overcome it. I'll be coming off my anti depressants slowly over the course of the trip.

For the both my fiancé and I, the important realisations to begin our recoveries were being honest with others about the state of our mental health, and taking steps to live the lives we had wanted for a long time. We found great relief and comfort to be found in giving up what we saw as others' desires for our lives and being honest with ourselves too. We also find a lot of joy in the outdoors and exercise.

It has been a long, difficult path for us to get here, and taken an enormous amount of effort, maybe as much as cycling around the world will. We will keep you posted.
