James Yeates is Chief Veterinary Officer of the Royal Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals, covering all species and contexts of animals. He holds degrees and a PhD in veterinary science and biomedical ethics. He was awarded a Fellowship of the Royal College of Veterinary Surgeons in 2016 and is a de facto diplomate of the European College of animal welfare and behavioural medicine. He is a published author in both academic article and non-fiction book categories. He currently has one cat, one dog and one daughter. His personal interests include High Mediaeval Church history and horse-riding.
