Managing director and third-generation owner of H.G. Matthews brick manufacturers.

Established in 1923, H.G. Matthews is a family-run brickworks specialising in the production of traditional hand-made-wood-fired bricks.

This ancient technique, originally used in the 18th century, is now being used to create over 500,000 bricks each year at the brickworks.

Based in the heart of Buckinghamshire, all of the company’s clay used to make the bricks is still dug from original deposits around Bellingdon and from nearby Chalfont St. Giles.

H.G. Matthews is the only manufacturer of hand-made wood-fired bricks in Europe, retaining the traditional skills and techniques to produce bricks required in high-end new builds and the conservation sector. H.G. Matthews bricks are being used to repair and extend some of the most prestigious buildings in Britain.
