Quitting all fun stuff doesn't encourage discipline. If anything, I'd argue we need to show our children how their dance or exercise can help with their exam revision. It can help manage stress and re-focus their brain.

I've been the fitness business for over 12 years. I know the industry trends and so do newspaper editors and marketing directors. In January everyone feels guilty. We've typically over spent, over eaten and turned into TV watching or relative visiting sloths. And guilt is so easy to sell to.

Is there such a thing as an instant pick me up? When you've been feeling glum for a few days, what can you do to get your mojo back? I'm usually a pretty positive person. For me the cup is always half full. But I'll be honest, of late I'm struggling a little. Politics and economics haven't helped. Some personal decisions to make have compounded it.

It's a growing trend. Minutes in the office are carefully accounted for and it seems the risk of someone tripping over their mat and suing someone, outweighs the benefit of them staying pain free and happier because they are getting in some regular exercise.

Newsflash: Rain, wind and cold are not unusual weather conditions for January. Yes, it's grey and soggy but you won't melt. Grab your rain jacket and get outside. If muddy puddles are good enough for Peppa Pig, they're good enough for you. Then treat yourself to an indulgent soak in the tub when you get home.

We all have a specific take on the world based on our experiences and upbringing. We can't change that but we can change our reaction to situations or news stories. We can recognise when we're making a judgement based our opinions rather than facts. We can consider all sides of the story. If you're scared. Admit it. If you don't understand. Ask a question. In 11 years working a pre and post natal exercise expert throughout London and West Essex I've seen a lot of pregnant and post natal mums. Probably close to the 500 pregnancies now. And what's the most common question? When will I get 'me' back again?

For many women, sickness or shock make any form of activity in the first months of pregnancy impossible. But if you do want to keep active, guidelines state that it is safe to continue to do what you did before pregnancy.
