Kerry Ann Akers is a researcher and programme manager at the Centre for Capital Punishment Studies, she is also a visiting lecturer in Criminal Justice at Westminster University.

The Centre for Capital Punishment Studies takes a holistic approach to the abolition of the death penalty, concentrating on the wider topics central to replacing the inhumane practices underpinning the death penalty globally. Kerry spend over two years working on death row in Uganda running prisoners' rights programmes and facilitating legal challenges concerning capital punishment. Further to this, in Uganda, Kerry also worked on projects concerning prisoners' mental health and mothers in prison with young children, as well as working with UNICEF as a consultant focusing on juvenile justice. Having also specialised in prisoners' right in the UK, Kerry is a member of an expert panel on maternal health in UK prisons.
