The General Election Doesn't Matter - But Only If You're Russell Brand

Or, any other rich, white guy with a trust fund or 6 figure income or a banker or a footballer or a Russian oligarch or CEO of a multi-national corporation or a hedge fund manager. It matters to the vast majority of families living in the UK (and not "families" as defined by the current obsession with "hard-working families" rhetoric used to punish anyone who is not rich)

#Jazzhands, Trauma and Male Violence

This idea that universities must become 'safe spaces' free of dissent or discussion is infantilising an entire generation of students. Staff put content notes on lectures, but you cannot study history without learning about genocide, mass rape and religious wars.

Access to Abortion for All Women Must Be Protected

Abortion is a right that all women must be guaranteed. I worry about the gendercide that is associated with sex-selective abortions but I also believe that women must be trusted to decide what is best for their own body.

Lice Are a Feminist

Lice Are a Feminist Issue

Lice are a mother's shame: if only they were a better mother; a more observant mother; one with hours of free time to comb through their child's hair (assuming the child would sit still through this process happy as a lark).

This Isn't Just About Ched Evans: It's About a Culture of Misogyny in Football

This isn't just about asking Sheffield United to take a stand on violence against women and girls. This is about demanding that every single football club stand up for victims of sexual violence and refuse to work with players who commit rape and condemn those who harass, abuse and stalk a victim of sexual violence.

Rape Is Always an Act of Violence

The obsession with the theory that rape itself doesn't cause bodily harm is so very dangerous... It causes physical, psychological and emotional trauma. The emotional and psychological trauma can have physical effects like depression, self-harm and suicidal behaviour.

Women Against Feminism, Privilege and Feminist Activism

Nothing irritates me more than the misappropriation of humanism, which is a centuries old intellectual movement based on rationality and science. The term itself predates feminism by nearly a century so how humanism can be the response to feminism is beyond me.

JumpMag: Fighting Toxic Masculinity and Femininity in Childhood

Toxic masculinity is real and it is killing us. It is killing women and children. It is also killing men. We need to start tackling men's rights extremists and toxic masculinity before we raise another generation of men who believe, like Andre Breivik and Rodger Elliot, they have the right to kill.

The War on Women: Denying Misogyny Is Gaslighting

Men who kill choose to kill. Men who rape, assault and torture women choose to do so. Rodger's crime isn't an aberration. The video he released on YouTube is the same justification given by millions of men who choose to harm women.

#AmazingFeminists: Let's Celebrate Fabulous Feminists

I want to celebrate the amazing feminists who continue to fight in incredibly creative manners for women's specialist services with dwindling budgets due to the government's slashing of funding. The fact that we still have rape crisis centres, refuges and a recognition that women deserve equal treatment under the law (even if this doesn't occur in practise) is a testament to feminist activism.

Her Name Was Reeva

Her Name Was Reeva Steenkamp

When Steenkamp was killed in February 2013, media outlets like the Sun and the Daily Mail chose to run articles featuring Steenkamp in bikinis; as if Steenkamp only mattered because she was beautiful and, by default, white. I thought this, only with live coverage of the trial, would be debased as humanity could get. I was wrong.

The Real Cause of Foetal Alcohol Spectrum

The Real Cause of Foetal Alcohol Spectrum Disorder

As a radical feminist, I believe that women's bodily autonomy is sacrosanct. As an aunt to a beautiful nephew with FASD, I worry. And, I worry because cuts to health, social services, education and legal aid will increase the number of women and children trapped in violent homes.

Naming the Perpetrators: Male Violence Against Women and Children

Let's stop pretending that fatal male violence against women are isolated events; or that fatal male violence is somehow distinct from non-fatal male violence. If we truly want to eliminate male violence against women and children, then we need to start contextualising male violence within a culture that classes women as sub-human.
