Lydia Pam Davou

45-year-old widow with eight children

Lydia Pam Davou is a 45-year-old widow with eight children. She and her husband lived with their family in Ropp, a village in Plateau State, central Nigeria. They made a living by farming, until conflict between farmers and herdsmen broke out in May 2015. Lydia’s husband was killed trying to protect the village, and she fled with her children to Barkin Ladi town. In 2017, she joined the Women for Women International programme, where she has learnt skills to improve her farming techniques, and joined a savings cooperative which allowed her to buy seedlings and fertiliser.
