Sexual health nurse

Madelaine Ward is recognised as a pioneering figure in sexual health matters.

She qualified as a nurse at the Middlesex Hospital in London in 1968 and went on to become one of the first specialist nurses in sexual and reproductive health. During her long and distinguished career she was also a national advisor on sexual health.

She is the co-founder of the Association of Psychosexual Nursing, a former chairperson of the Abortion Law Reform Association and author of ‘Nursing Tales: Personal Reminiscences of Sexual Health Nursing in the Twentieth Century’, which was published last year.
