Being a Muslim woman, society has defined my life in many different ways, but one thing I can tell you, is that out of all of those adjectives, dull certainly won't appear on that list. We are always a focal point of discussion and let's face it my presence could liven up any dismal gathering. My very being is always brought to question, as many struggle to decide whether my hijab is a symbol of empowerment or mark of oppression.

My message to the people of France is much the same, that we should not use religion as a scapegoat and ignore the social issues and divides that are causing friction in our society. That is what feeds extremists elements and gives them more material to spread their message of hate.

Perhaps separating the boys and girls is not enough; a lot of it comes down to the parents as well. It seems nowadays, particularly in western countries, many parents tend to mollycoddle their children and avoid placing 'too much pressure' on them once they get home from school.

Religions throughout the world use the New Year as a time to repent for their sins and seek a more enlightened path, perhaps the world can take a step back from vanity and seek a more charitable and selfless path, maybe if we each focused on the importance of others then perhaps 2015 could be a year of positive social change.

According to Unicef 2014 has been the worst year for millions of children across the world. With growing conflicts arising across the globe innocent children have been forcibly exposed to violence, kidnapped or targeted and forced in to warring groups.

If different decisions had been made in Pakistan's history, this may have been possible but for now the future of good education in Pakistan remains bleak, if the leaders of this country invested more in the their education sector then perhaps the Taliban wouldn't have been able to recruit so many young men into their initiative.

Home secretary Theresa May has raised concerns over jihadist returning from Iraq and Syria but fails to realize the greatest threat we face is home grown extremism. Even if the government is able to implement new laws that will see returning jihadists losing their passports they will not be able to confiscate their funding, training and desire to overthrow the western world.

We can certainly commend all health officials working on the ground level to abolish these cruel rituals in countries such as Egypt but it really is up to the religious leaders of the world to unite with great determination to help abolish this cruel practice; a practice that has no solid historical evidence to suggest that this can be done in the name of the name of God.
