Nick Gold is the owner and Managing Director of Speakers Corner, a market-leading speaker bureau and consultancy with a portfolio of over 6,500 speakers, servicing over 1,000 events each year across all UK business sectors. He is also a Director of Speaking Office, a bespoke management company for Speakers and Artists. He is a board member and advisor to one of London’s leading restaurant groups, Berber & Q and is on the Board of Trustees for the award-winning charity, Castlehaven Community Association. Nick looks after the Enterprise Development Board there. He previously worked in the energy sector at Power Costs Inc. (PCI) and Centrica, where he specialised in project management, business development, business analysis and bid tendering. Nick is a current Governor of the International Association of Speaker Bureaus (IASB) and was formerly the Chairman of the EASB (European Association of Speaker Bureaus). It is quite pleasant, in a macabre sort of way, to be able to look the at the goings on in Europe and for once not feel that the UK are the centre of the storm, due to the latest drama in the ongoing Brexit soap opera. Due to this, I have been following the struggles of the Catalonian referendum, declaration of independence and subsequent fall out with a great deal of interest.

The hardest part of staying cool is that it relies on the individual to have a clear black and white vision which doesn't always marry up to the various shades of grey real life offers. Historically, this is something that leaders in politics, society and business have always demonstrated and it is a lesson today's leaders could do with learning.

I implore Theresa May to re-consider, to give us, the public, the chance to listen to our politicians deliver and educate through the power of their oratory skills, so we can all be involved in politics, rather than being left as detached bystanders in a highly-controlled society, where debate and freedom of speech is seen as an enemy of democracy.

So, 2016 was the year that Oxford Dictionaries declared "Post-Truth" to be its word of the year. I like the way that "post-truth" sounds and for the last few months, I have read and absorbed the phrase from different articles and commentaries with great interest.
