So, I turned 40 this year. It really wasn't that bad. But it <em>is </em>a big deal. Anyone who tells you that they weren't or aren't bothered about this seminal moment in time is either lying or not telling the whole truth about it.

My sister tells the story best. She lived in Manhattan for a year and, during her one and only trip to the dentist, she was having her molars examined - as you do - and then the dentist suddenly broke-off into a Woody Allen-esque rant about the joys of KFC... Sleeping in a tent all squashed up, wearing jumpers, coats and socks, holding on to each other for dear life because it's so f'ing cold, whilst sharing a port-a-loo with showers with several other families, is not glamorous. I don't care if I sound like a pampered pooch.

Forget about all the hype surrounding Superman vs. Batman, Alien vs. Predator or Hilary vs. The Donald... there's a much more terrifying confrontation brewing in theme park land this summer.

Like most everyone else in the British Isles, I was disappointed to discover last week that booze really is bad for us... at least, that's the latest line from the Government, as they promoted the updated guidelines on low-risk drinking for the UK.

London's skyline has been transformed in the last twenty years or so, and although some of the buildings may not be to everyone's taste, it's a city which has something for everyone. From up in the air it looks every inch a global city for the 21st century, a place where 300 different languages are spoken and over 8.5 million people live and work.

Only last week in the clubhouse bar after my Saturday game of football, I mentioned that I was going away for an overnight spa-break with 'the Mrs' and instead of being greeted with howls of derision, I was grilled by a couple of my team mates about where we going.

Every parent you ask about Peppa Pig World reacts in a similar way. They offer a withered smile, and explain wearily about how <em>"you've got to do it"</em> and that the <em>"kids loved it"</em>, but you know by the tired expressions that Peppa has left her pink mark on them.

The growing influence of China has been a hot topic of discussion for several years now, as the economic powerhouse of the East has emerged as a legitimate contender to the USA's supremacy as the world's most powerful nation.

The hashtag, which was conceived by Ibrahim Abdullahi, a Nigerian lawyer, was first tweeted a week after the reports of the kidnapping had emerged. Observers had widely criticised the Nigerian government's response to the crisis, claiming it had failed to act decisively to get the children back.

So, let's get the obvious point of this article out there straight away - it is, in fact, not really possible to spend 4 enjoyable days in New York City without parting with quite a sizeable amount of cash.

Sleep deprivation is a key cause of Toddler's Back, when you have kids you just don't get to rest like you used to - fact. Our daughter is no fan of sleeping, and despite being a perfect little angel (well almost) during daylight hours, she turns into something of a diva at night. It was during a particularly difficult night time shift this week, when my Toddler's Back really struck.

With my inevitable post-Christmas return to work looming large on the horizon, I decided that a quick family getaway was in order, one last hurrah with my wife and daughter before I had to go back to the daily commuter grind.

Well if you ask me the whole December/January transition is ridiculous. Being a glutton one minute and then abstaining the next seems like a sure fire recipe for a bipolar episode. Surely we would all be much better off changing our habits in a less drastic fashion? Perhaps we could start a detox in February... or March... maybe July?

Ok, so I'm going to weigh into this ongoing debate about the growing disenchantment with our political classes. You know the one which has been rumbling along since most of us were born, and has recently got some more media attention because a well-known comedian has got involved.

In the 'old days', we wouldn't think twice about stuffing an overnight bag and whisking ourselves off for a long weekend somewhere, but once you are a 2 + 1 the logistics are a little more complicated, to say the least.

Why do people get so worked up on online forums? Posting your views on the comment space at the foot of web articles is a recent phenomenon, something which has only emerged in the last few years as the mainstream media has responded to the influence of social media and encouraged people to share their views at every opportunity.

This repetitive use of the same format is the product of a wider problem facing the media in the internet age. There's simply too much space to fill these days, and journalists are being forced to turn around content much faster than ever before
