Nina Shivji

Blogger, Time to change

Nina has experienced depression and anxiety for many years now. She first experienced the stigma of mental health through her own parents who encouraged her to keep her diagnosis a secret from other people. The family struggled for years with feelings of shame and confusion. However, over time and with the help of campaigns like Time to Change and educating themselves about mental health, her parents’ attitudes changed and now they are extremely understanding and supportive. It took them a long time to understand that depression is nothing to be ashamed about. Nina is now a media volunteer for the anti-discrimination campaign, Time to Change and shares her story to help others.
