Over a coffee, my parents mentioned that they'd seen an old family acquaintance. It appeared to them that she was continuing to battle with the mental health issues that we knew had plagued her for some time.

I was initially shocked by the announcement, especially as she'd been much on my mind today while I read her diary of <em>Vogue</em>'s centenary year. Yet upon further reflection it isn't so much of a surprise. A quarter of a century is a long time in any job, especially one that carries so much power and responsibility.

Many of the items produced in cashmere, from hot water bottles to bed-socks to jumpers in the palest, most delicate shades, reinforce this association with luxury. It continues to be regarded as an investment choice, the antithesis of fast fashion. As such, it's easy to assume that cashmere is therefore a good sustainable choice.

As a long-time <em>Vogue </em> reader and a magazine junkie who has forged a career out of reading and writing about them, I was intrigued to see what the programme would reveal but also concerned about the approach that Macer might take. Alas my fears were justified.
