Ruth Fowler

British American author and journalist

Ruth Fowler is a British-born, Los Angeles-based author and journalist. After graduating from Cambridge University, Ruth traveled the world eking out a living from writing, teaching, sailing, cooking, hand-jobs and begging. Ruth lived in Argentina, the South of France, the Alps, Florida, the Caribbean and Central America before finding herself in New York in January 2005, penniless and without a visa. This time in New York formed the subject for her first book, Girl Undressed, published by Penguin in 2009, and partly based upon the blog she wrote during this time - Mimi in New York. Ruth has written for The Guardian, Al Jazeera, The Village Voice, Wired, New Woman Magazine, The Observer (UK) and The Norton Anthology for Creative Nonfiction. She is currently writing her second book, working on several screenplays and looking after a small dog called 'Mr Chips.'
