Sarah Butler-Sloss

Ashden Founder-Director

Sarah Butler-Sloss has been an internationally recognised leader in the field of green energy for the past 20 years. She is best known for founding the Ashden Awards for Sustainable Energy in 2001.

Sarah says: “In 2001 I had an idea – and it was a simple one: if you give someone a prize, the benefits that follow are much greater than the prize itself.

“But what was also surprising was how rarely other people were replicating their ideas.”

“Through the recognition that our awards provide, and the support that we provide our winners afterwards, we help increase the chances their initiatives have to develop and reach their full potential.”

Now renamed Ashden, the organisation has rewarded over 145 sustainable energy trailblazers, which have collectively improved the lives of over 33 million people, saving over 4 million tonnes of CO2 emissions every year.

As Founder-Director of Ashden Sarah is a regular contributor to UK and global policy debates in the field of sustainable energy and also an active member of the UN’s International Sustainable Energy for All Practitioner’s network, inputting extensively to its submission to the Rio+20 summit in Brazil in June 2012.
