Sihle Mthembu

Writer, filmmaker.

Sihle Mthembu is a writer and filmmaker born in Mooi River in the Natal Midlands. In 2009 Mthembu enrolled into the Durban University of Technology where he graduated with a B-tech in journalism. He has worked as an art critic, a business journalist and a churner of various types on online banter. His work has appeared in publications such as Rolling Stone SA, The Mail and Guardian, The City Press, The Sunday Independent, The independent on Saturday, Mahala, OkayAfrica and many others. Currently he works for East Coast Radio and is a film critic for the Sunday Tribune in addition to being the host of two podcasts that deal with art, film and TV culture. In 2015 he received a Silver BASA award for arts journalism. He has directed Made in Durban, a documentary about young inner city artists as well as F is for Father a documentary about paternal relationships in communities of colour. He has also created and directed three webseries including Running the streets with Bongani Mtolo.
