What Not To Wear This Valentine's Day

It's almost Valentine's Day, which means there's plenty of love in the air and many of us will already be thinking of what to wear. Whether you're heading out on a first date in the evening or spending a chilled out day with your loved one, it's a welcome opportunity to dress to impress.

It's almost Valentine's Day, which means there's plenty of love in the air and many of us will already be thinking of what to wear. Whether you're heading out on a first date in the evening or spending a chilled out day with your loved one, it's a welcome opportunity to dress to impress.

While it might seem like the perfect opportunity to go for the flashiest items in your wardrobe, it's not necessarily the best option. Here are some valuable top tips to make sure your Valentine's Day outfit is one to remember for all the right reasons...

Don't go overboard on the make-up

A successful first date involves getting to know each other through conversation and is influenced by first impressions made from your outfit, accessories and choice of make-up. By choosing to go with a make-up heavy look, it might appear as though you're trying to hide the real you instead of embracing it.

Even if your normal routine involves lots of make-up, Valentine's Day is the perfect opportunity to go for a more natural look which allows your personality to really shine through.

Say no to the gown

We all want to look our very best on Valentine's Day, but there's absolutely no excuse to scare your date off by dressing like Cinderella. Unless there's a very good reason for wearing one we'd suggest avoiding long gowns, as many of them can appear to be stuffy and a bit, well...princess-y.

If you've got your hopes set on wearing a dress, opt for something a bit more understated and subtle. Maybe go for something plain yet figure-flattering, and if in doubt, there's always the LBD!

Ditch the sky high heels

Big, bold heels are brilliant for a night out on the town or a formal dinner occasion, but when it comes to Valentine's Day you can afford to play it a bit more casual with your choice of footwear.

You can never go wrong with a pair of simple black boots. They always look great and they'll complement almost any outfit that you decide to wear. Or, if you're really dying to wear heels on the big night, just make sure they're not too big - especially if you're tall! No one wants to be towering head and shoulders over their date...

Keep the accessories simple

Accessories can be a great way to stand out and finish off an outfit, but by overdoing it you might risk looking as though you're trying too hard to impress your Valentine's date.

If you're wearing a fairly plain outfit then you can get away with a few small accessories or one statement piece, but if you're opting for a bold colours and wild patterns then we'd suggest really toning down the accessories or maybe dropping them altogether.

If ever in doubt, it's always best to stick to that trusty phrase, 'less is more'. Moderation is key, and simplicity will always win over complexity!
