New York Hotels - Where to Stay?

As a regular visitor to New York, I usually struggle with where to stay. A bit of downtown cool or uptown sophistication? Cool Soho or beautiful Central Park?

Viceroy New York, Midtown

Bringing the best of both worlds to Midtown Manhattan on West 57th is the Viceroy New York. For a 29-story hotel with 240 rooms and suites, the lobby feels rather intimate, with the private library design creating a chic, homely atmosphere.

Suites offer glorious views of New York from the bedroom and sitting area, and bathrooms have a maritime themed window in the shower - how refreshing to see the city's best bits while washing yours.

The design of the rooms mixes retro colours (think dark and light browns, beige and grey) with modern design, including being able to play music wirelessly through the sound system from your own smart phone. Visit this summer to check out the hotel's new rooftop bar and lounge - the views are incredible!

Soho Grand Hotel, Soho

The Soho Grand Hotel opened in 1996 and it started the trend for the cool hotel scene that is found in Soho these days.

With 353 rooms and suites towering 17 stories high, the design at the Soho Grand Hotel mixes industrial metal staircases with heavy velvet drapes and vaulted ceilings - stylish and on-trend without trying too hard to be trendy.

Bedrooms are cool and comfortable, if a little dark, but has a fantastic location - right next to the boutiques, hot restaurants and cool bars of Soho.

Crosby Street Hotel, Soho

Adding a more luxurious and elegant alternative in Soho is the Crosby Street Hotel from Firmdale Hotels.

Rooms continue with the Firmdale style of stylish, elegant and homely, with softer, more subtle colours, with the odd design quirk thrown in to mix things up.

Bedrooms are large for New York, with even the smallest of the 86 bedrooms and suites spread over 11 floors being a spacious 32 square metres.

Crosby Street Hotel offers a tranquil, refined experience just a few yards from the busiest streets of one of the most vibrant cities in the world - sometimes you really can have it all.
