16-Year-Old Charged With Murder Of Man Shot Dead Outside Petrol Station

A teenager has been charged with the murder of a man shot dead outside a petrol station.

John Pordage, 34, died after being shot in the chest at the BP garage in Chelmsford, Essex, at around 2.10am on Saturday.

Essex Police said a 16-year-old boy from Chelmsford was charged with murder, possession of an offensive weapon, handling stolen goods and perverting the course of justice on Tuesday.

Mr Pordage was with a friend, a 25-year-old man, when the incident took place near the Army and Navy roundabout in Baddow Road.

He was taken to hospital where he later died.

His mother, Sue Wilson, paid tribute to him as someone who was "fun-loving and wore his heart on his sleeve".

"He was known for his big personality and friendly nature," she added.

The teenager, who cannot be named for legal reasons, is due to appear at Chelmsford Magistrates' Court later on Tuesday.
