Alan Carr has spoken out about rumours he’s taking on the job of ‘Great British Bake Off’ presenter, when the show jumps ship to Channel 4 next year.
The recently-engaged stand-up comedian and TV presenter is undoubtedly one of the jewels in Channel 4’s crown, hosting the short-lived music show ‘The Singer Takes It All’, in addition to his ongoing talk show ‘Chatty Man’ and semi-regular ‘Specstacular’ shows.
However, when it was suggested he could be set to take over from Mel and Sue, he was quick to downplay rumours, for the simple reason he’s not even much of a fan of the show.
During a live interview with Heat about the possible gig, he said: “Can I just say, I haven’t been linked to it, because everyone keeps asking me. I don’t love the show as much as everyone else - don’t send me death threats! So I feel I’d be taking a job away from someone [who liked the show].”
He then joked: “I know I look like I eat a lot of cakes but it don’t mean I want to be in that tent.”
This comes as Dawn French and Jennifer Saunders have also downplayed rumours they’re up for the presenting job, as have TV presenters Davina McCall and Clare Balding, with the former insisting it wouldn’t sit well with her sugar-free lifestyle.
But with all these stars insisting they won’t be hosting ‘Bake Off’, we’re starting to wonder if there’s anyone left who actually wants to front Channel 4’s upcoming reboot.

On Twitter, hers is the name we keep seeing crop up time and time again, either from people crying out for her to get the job, or pleading with Channel 4 not to give it to her.
In our opinion, it would be a bit too obvious, though, but we'd definitely be in favour of her forming a new double act with runner-up Tamal, with whom she got along like a house on fire in their days on 'GBBO'.
Like Nadiya, he too has managed to bag himself a career in TV, so we wouldn't be surprised if the offer fell at his feet either.
Julian is the undisputed king of innuendo, and his soft-spoken style lends itself perfectly to the 'Bake Off' tent.
He's also become a dab hand at light entertainment since his 'CBB' days, appearing on the panel of 'Your Face Sounds Familiar', as well as fronting 'Nature Nuts' and appearing on 'Give A Dog A Home'.
Hmmm.... maybe not.
Emma must be so stressed out interviewing the stars of 'Celebrity Big Brother' twice a year that we'd be quite happy for her to land a presenting gig that's a bit more... calming.
