Amanda Knox, her family and your virtual footprint

Amanda Knox, her family and your virtual footprint

Amanda Knox is now a free woman and preparing to fly home. Now may be a good time to re-assess your virtual footprint.

Amanda's case was widely covered by the media who swarmed over details of her sexual history and in particular things that she had posted in the past on adult dating sites. These things were used by the prosecution to build up her 'risqué' character.

Let's not forget her family, not only was Amanda arrested and convicted for murder and taken from them but also they were exposed to some private details about her personal life that they didn't need to know. Imagine seeing a member of your family portrayed as a sexual praying-mantis to the World.

The internet's saturated with dating sites, some more adult in content than others. Hundreds of thousands, if not millions of people have at some point written something in an explicit content in the hope of attracting a partner. But I imagine that the last thing they consider is that one day, if they are unfortunate enough to find themselves part of any high-profile,case such as Amanda did, that their words could be used against them and that their family could be exposed to it too.

It's a scary thought - should we be thinking more about where our virtual footprint could lead others ?
