A friend of Mac Miller’s has insisted that Ariana Grande remained a “stabilising force” in his life, and would regularly check in to help with his sobriety.
Mac and Ariana dated for two years, eventually going their separate ways earlier this year, but Shane Powers, a friend of his, has insisted that the ‘God Is A Woman’ singer was still instrumental in helping with her ex’s sobriety.
Speaking about Mac’s death on his podcast ‘The Shane Show’, Shane insisted: “There was no one… more ready to go to the wall for him when it came to him being sober, and she was an unbelievably stabilising force in his life.
“She was deeply helpful and effective in keeping Mac sober and helping him get sober and she was all about him being healthy, period, in this area of this life.”
Shane went on to say that Ariana would “regularly” speak to Mac about his health and sobriety, even after their break-up.
Mac was found dead at the age of 26 on Friday night, with Ariana posting a photo tribute to the rapper on her Instagram page a day later.
Shortly after the news of his death broke, it was discovered that comments on Ariana’s Instagram page had been disabled, after a number of his fans unfairly blamed her for the death.
Mac had a long history with substance abuse and spoke openly about his issues on multiple occasions. In May, he was arrested for driving under the influence (DUI), after totalling his car and fleeing the scene.
Following his DUI, Ariana reached out to him publicly in a tweet, saying simply: “Please take care of yourself.”
He had previously overcome an addiction to promethazine in 2012 and talked about his drug use in a 12-minute documentary called ‘Stopped Making Excuses’, which came out in 2016.
