Ashley Graham Struggled To Get A Designer To Dress Her For The 2016 Met Gala

She might have missed out in 2016, but A.G served at this year's Met.

Why is it a problem that model Ashley Graham couldn’t get a designer to dress her for the 2016 Met Gala?

Because she’s a modern day fashion and beauty icon and the fashion industry is tripping. As per.

The night of the first Monday in May is one of the biggest nights in fashion’s social calendar.

The Met Gala’s international appeal is as much due to the fashion extravaganza on show, as it is to celebrate art.

On average only five hundred guests get to attend the coveted event with the understanding that they’ll bring press attention and envy-inducing celeb/designer partnerships to the party.

So imagine barely getting an invitation, only to give up hope of attending all together because no designer wants to dress you. Because of your body.

While this might scream ‘first world problems’ to you, just think of what it actually means.

It’s the norm for A-listers - that’s all A-listers - to be invited to events where they’ll show off the latest creations from leading designers.

It’s an expected part of two industries we all love to hate (and secretly worship, against our better judgement) and is actually relished by many.

So the glamorous event should be indulged by all who fit the bill, not just sample sized celebrities.

Unfortunately garment making is expensive so in order to cut corners designers send samples to their favourite celebrities to wear to events.

This is as opposed to fitting each dress to their so-called muses, as is the custom with couture houses and their fabulous clients.

Since Graham isn’t sample size, last year the model had no choice but to forego the event because “you can’t just show up in jeans and a T-shirt,” Graham told The Cut in a recent interview.

But it’s not all sad face emoji for the bombshell, as she nailed it when she graced all with her presence at the 2017 Met Gala wearing H&M Couture.
