AW13 for Men

AW13 contains plenty of wearable trends that can be found at more pocket-friendly prices on the high street. Seek out faux-fur trims on coats, printed dinner jackets and slim-fit roll neck sweaters. This winter, it's all about keeping cosy while still looking sharp.

Catwalk styles for men can often look even odder and less applicable to real life than what's on offer for women. Puffa-capes for guys, anyone? However, AW13 contains plenty of wearable trends that can be found at more pocket-friendly prices on the high street. Seek out faux-fur trims on coats, printed dinner jackets and slim-fit roll neck sweaters. This winter, it's all about keeping cosy while still looking sharp.

The Jacket - Baseball jackets are still proving popular, dominating the catwalks at Oliver Spencer, Givenchy and Roberto Cavalli. If you want to get that varsity look, the Teddy Kenickie II Jacket from A.P.C is 80% wool and comes in a versatile dark navy. I would always advise splashing the most cash on coats and everyday footwear - not only do they get the most wear and are exposed to the elements, but they also are consistently on show.

The Hoodie - Grey is the go-to colour for men this season and grey-on-grey outfits have been seen at Viktor & Rolf and Bottega Veneta's AW13 shows. The Charcoal Dee Sherpa Lined Sweatshirt from Bellfield is £34 and has a super-snuggly lining. Be careful that your girlfriend doesn't steal it, because you'll probably never see it again!

The Shirt - If it's not grey, it's claret. Allow your eye to be drawn to anything in dark red this season as seen on the catwalk at Alexander McQueen, Prada, Richard James and Armani. Try the Burgundy Long Sleeve Oxford Shirt at £14.99 from New Look.

The Boots - What's comfortable, warm, completely waterproof, and suddenly in fashion? Hiking boots have been spotted at Louis Vuitton and Canali shows, so forget the middle-aged hill-walking associations and embrace anything that looks tough and sturdy. ASOS has a pair of reasonably priced leather work boots with a shearling lining, at £50, but if you want the real deal it's probably best to go to an outdoorsy place like Blacks.

The Blazer - The winter blues are certainly in vogue this season! Choose cornflower and periwinkle shades as featured at Gucci and Nicole Farhi. H&M does a blue cotton-mix blazer jacket with contrasting elbow patches that won't break the bank at £39.99.

The Trousers - Checks and tartans are having a real moment this winter, for both men and women. Hackett, Jil Sander and Valentino were all championing blokes in bold, statement checks for AW13. If you're bored of the ubiquitous check shirt staple, try wearing your check on coats or trousers. Topman has a pair of synthetic-mix Grey Checked Skinny Trousers that look especially smart, for £36.

The T-Shirt - I always get jealous because the internet has so many cool t-shirts for men and I have to buy them and then snip them down to tiny-girl size. My current favourite is the All Hail Sarscream t-shirt by Olan Rogers, priced at £11.15 and featuring a cat in a Native American headdress. What could be better?

The Socks - They're pretty pricey at £25 for ONE pair, but these cute Space Invader socks from New and Lingwood definitely deserve a mention. They come in a variety of colour combinations and are manufactured in England and Italy - fancy!

Fantasy Item - If you ever come into some serious money, my fantasy item choice would be Moschino's printed cityscape t-shirt from the exclusive AW collection, at £210. The lit-up metropolis design covers the back and sleeves. If you're feeling particularly daring (and still flush), the same print is available on a blazer jacket for £981.
