Person Falls Off Bike And Into Pond Live On BBC News

Many claimed it summed up the evening's events in parliament.

After what was a rather heavy night in British politics, a touch of light relief was served up on BBC News when a cyclist fell into a pond live on air.

Correspondent Sarah Smith was doing a live link-up from Edinburgh to discuss how the potential upcoming election could see Scotland seek an independence vote when the blink-and-you’ll-miss-it moment happened.

The cyclist could be seen slowly entering the screen from the left-hand side, but it appears they got a little bit too close to the edge of the water.

The hooded figure was then seen raising their arms in the air before crashing into the pond.

Luckily, they were OK, jumping straight back out before appearing to laugh at the gaffe.

And while Sarah didn’t notice what was going on behind her, plenty of people at home did, with many claiming the moment summed up the evening’s events...

Of course, it is not the first moment of its kind to air on BBC News.

Who could forget the time coverage of Ant McPartlin’s court hearing for drink-driving was interrupted by two cars bumping in to one another?

And then perhaps most famously of all, there was BBC Breakfast’s Mike Bushell taking an unexpected dip in a pool during an interview with England’s Commonwealth Swimming team.
