Bouncy Castle Tragedy: Donations To Give Summer 'Send Off For A Princess'

The family of a seven-year-old who died when the bouncy castle she was playing on blew away have thanked fundraisers for helping them give her "the send off she deserves".

More than £2,500 has been raised online to support the grieving family of Summer Grant, who died after a strong gust of wind apparently swept the inflatable 150 metres across a park at a fun fair in Harlow, Essex, on Easter Saturday.

A post-mortem examination revealed the girl, from Braeford Close in Norwich, died from multiple injuries.

Lee Grant, who is believed to be Summer's father, thanked the community on the JustGiving donations page on Monday writing: "I wanna truly thank everyone so much for helping my beautiful daughter have the send off she deserves love u all xxx."

Shawn Grant posted: "Thank you everyone for the kind words and donations to help my beautiful little niece have a send off for a princess. Summer you will always be in my heart. Uncle Shawn xxxxxxxxx".

Another message believed to be from a family member said: "I am Summer's grandmother I want to say thank you all who donated and for the heartfelt messages here. It will give our beautiful angel a good send off."

The fair was closed on Sunday but a steady trickle of people visited the park, leaving messages including: "God has taken a beautiful girl for his angel. RIP Princess", while flowers and teddy bears have been left by the park entrance.

A man, 27, and 24-year-old woman, both from Cambridgeshire, who were arrested on suspicion of manslaughter by gross negligence following the child's death, have been released on bail pending further inquiries.

Councillor Jon Clempner, leader of Harlow Council, said the town had been left shocked by the tragedy.

He said: "I can't imagine the heartache of the parents and family of the little girl who has died, and my thoughts are with them."

Detectives from the Kent and Essex serious crime directorate, which is leading the investigation, have appealed for anyone with footage or information about what happened to contact them.
