Sound the burger klaxon, because Britain's favourite fast food restaurant has been announced.

We'll spare you any suspense, it's Five Guys.

A survey of 4,500 people in the UK revealed that the burger joint was the preferred place to grab a quick bite to eat, followed by Nandos, Gourmet Burger Kitchen (GBK), KFC and Burger King.

People were asked to rate their satisfaction for their last experience at a given restaurant, as well as how likely they'd be to recommend it to others.

Categories people could rate included speed of service, food quality and value for money. The data was then averaged to rate each brand's 'Composite Loyalty Index', which formed the basis of the results.

The survey from Market Force Information also revealed Britain's favourite café, which, for the second year running, is Pret A Manger.

Caffè Nero came in second place, followed by Greggs, Costa Coffee and Starbucks.

Cheryl Flink, Market Force’s chief strategy officer, said: "The quick service restaurant category is evolving all the time, with new chains launching and arriving from overseas.

"Our research shows the quick traction of newcomer Five Guys – guests really appreciate the tasty burgers and think the brand offers great value."
