Caroline Flack’s boyfriend Lewis Burton has spoken out for the first time since the presenter was charged with assault last week.

On Friday, it was reported that the presenter had been arrested and charged with assault by beating after a domestic incident at her home, which is believed to have involved Lewis.

While little is currently known about the incident, Lewis has now jumped to Caroline’s defence in a post on his Instagram Story, suggesting the Love Island star has been the subject of a “witch hunt”.

“I’m tired of the lies and abuse aimed at my girlfriend. This is not a witch hunt this is someone’s life,” he wrote.

“I have not signed any NDA. Why would I? Caroline is the most lovely girl. Loyal and kind. She doesn’t deserve any of this.”

Two days prior, Lewis had shared a photo of himself and Caroline on his Instagram Story amid speculation about what had gone on.

Caroline has not posted on social media since she was arrested following an incident at approximately 5.25am on Thursday, after reports of a man being assaulted.

Her representative said on Friday: “We confirm that police attended Caroline’s home following a private domestic incident. She is co-operating with the appropriate people to resolve matters.

“We will not be making any further comment for legal reasons.”

A London Ambulance Service spokesperson said the man was treated by paramedics, although police said he was not seriously injured. “A person” was also taken to hospital.

Eye witnesses told the Daily Star, who broke the story, that six police vehicles were outside Caroline’s home after the incident was reported.

The presenter has since been released on bail and will appear at Highbury Corner Magistrates’ Court on Monday 23 December.

Caroline had been due to fly to South Africa in the coming weeks to host the new series of Love Island, which kicks off in January.

However, an ITV spokesperson declined to comment on how her arrest would affect her role on the show when contacted by HuffPost UK.
